All Ages & AbilitiesSwim Lessons at the Y

America's Swim Instructor, Right Here in Klamath Falls

When it comes to swimming and water safety, no one is trusted more than the YMCA — America’s swim instructor since 1906, when the Y developed group swim instruction. Our swim lesson curriculum is designed to teach this lifelong skill to children and adults of all skill levels in a safe, structured, and encouraging environment. Whether your child is splashing in the water for the first time or you’re an adult looking to finally learn to swim, we have a lesson type and level that’s right for you. Our low instructor-to-student ratios mean every participant gets the individual attention they need to progress with confidence. Lessons are held year-round at our indoor pool at the Aquatic & Fitness Center.

Our Swim Lesson Programs

We offer three types of swim lessons to fit different ages, goals, and learning styles. Not sure which level is right for your child? Download our Lesson Selector guide or give us a call at 541.884.4149 and our aquatics team will help you find the perfect fit.

Group Lessons — Youth

Our group swim lessons are specifically tailored to each participant’s age, swimming ability, level of physical development, and confidence in the water. We maintain a low instructor-to-student ratio so every child gets plenty of personal attention and progresses at a pace that builds real confidence. Lessons are 30 minutes long, held twice a week, and run year-round. To participate in group lessons, a child must be able to listen to instructions and remain seated on the edge of the pool while waiting for their turn. Please note: all new students registering for Level 4 and above are required to pass a swim test — including those with experience at other facilities.

Adult Swim Lessons (Ages 13+)

Adult swim lessons are designed for participants ages 13 and older, whether you’re an absolute beginner or looking to refine your stroke and build endurance. Goals are determined together by the instructor and participant, and the curriculum is customized to help you get where you want to go — whether that’s floating confidently, swimming laps, or building water safety skills. Adult lessons are offered Tuesday and Thursday at 11:30 AM and 6:05 PM. Contact us at 541.884.4149 to learn more and get started.

Private & Semi-Private Lessons

Private and semi-private lessons give participants individualized, one-on-one or small group attention to improve or master their swimming skills at any age or level. Goals are set by the instructor, participant, and/or parent, and every session is fully customized. Private and semi-private lessons must be arranged in advance — contact us at 541.884.4149 to schedule. Rates are as follows:

Swimming Is a Life Skill

Learning to swim is one of the most important things a child — or adult — can do for their safety, their health, and their confidence. At the YMCA of Klamath Falls, we take that responsibility seriously. Our instructors are trained, caring professionals who know how to meet every swimmer where they are and help them grow at a pace that feels good. Members receive priority registration and discounted rates on all swim lesson programs. Financial assistance is also available — we believe every child in our community deserves the chance to learn to swim.
